ASTM D6400 or ASTM D6868. It is worth mentioning that some states in America have implemented their own policies and laws. In the state of California, plastic bags must comply with ASTM D 6400-04 standard specifications if to be sold in "degradable" or "marine degradable" form. Otherwise, it cannot be marked as “biodegradable”, “degradable” or “decomposable”, and the certificate should not be generated by the company itself. The only way that can be certified is to ask the manufacturer for a third-party certification document, such as Biodegradable Product Research Institute (BPI), Din Certco, Vinçotte or other well-known third party.
